How Action Log works
Projects, actions, and the basic workflow from capture to done.
Getting started guide
If you dismissed the onboarding card on your dashboard, you can bring it back here anytime.
Quick start
- Create your first project.
- Add at least 3 to 5 actions with owners and target dates.
- Pick a working view: Table for scanning fields, or Kanban for status flow.
- Use Dashboard to see what needs you today: Needs review now, Due this week counts, and recent movement. Project status (On track, At risk, or Off track) is on each project.
Action Log centers on actions: concrete follow-ups with a status, optional target date, assignees, tags, and discussion. You organize them inside projects.
Workflow at a glance
1. Create project
2. Add actions
3. Assign & track
4. Review dashboard
Typical workflow (detail)
- Create a project (or import one from a JSON or Excel export; see Importing projects).
- Add actions manually, or generate proposals from meeting notes or a transcript and apply the ones you want.
- Assign owners, set target dates, move statuses from Open through Working On It to Done (Stuck when blocked, Deferred when shelved).
- Use the dashboard for Needs review now and closed work across projects. Open a project to see its status and the reason.
- Use Kanban view for drag-and-drop progression by status when planning in meetings.
Example: tags in a weekly status meeting
Many teams use tags to slice the same project for different audiences or agendas. For example, tag items by workstream (tag:Marketing), by meeting type (tag:Status call), or by escalation (tag:Exec update). During the meeting, switch to Table view, set Statuses to the lanes you care about (for example Open and Working On It), and type the tag: filter in Search to walk only that slice. Optional tags keep the list flexible without forcing everyone through the same fields; see Understanding actions. For named workstream areas with overview health cards, use workstream: search or set up Workstreams.
Field-level tips for actions live under Understanding actions. On the dashboard, Due this week and Needs review now highlight open work that needs attention. The same Due this week list is on each project dashboard.
