Notification types

Email and in-app defaults, mentions, and where settings apply.

Notification settings are per account, not per project. For each event type you can enable email and in-app delivery. Email is on by default—turn it off for any category you do not want in your inbox.

Manage notification preferences from the header bell or Account settings.

Event types
  • Status changed: an action you are responsible for changed status. Project owners also receive this when any action in their project is marked Stuck or Done. The same setting covers a deferred action whose target date arrives: assignees are notified, and the project owner is notified when nobody is assigned. If a linked item is still parked or done, the action stays deferred and shows under Slipping.
  • New action assigned: you were added as a responsible person.
  • Mention: someone referenced you with an @mention in rich text (use the @ control in the action update editor).
  • Comment added: a new update was posted on an action you are responsible for. Integration sync updates (Basecamp, Azure DevOps, and Jira change notifications) also appear as in-app notifications under this event type.
  • Due date change: a target date was updated on an action you are responsible for.
Who gets notified

Notifications go to the people directly accountable for an action. Responsible people receive assignment, due date, status, and comment notifications for their own actions. Project owners receive a separate notification when an action is created with no one assigned yet, and when any action in their project is marked Stuck or Done.

You are never notified of changes you make yourself.

Email and in-app

Email is enabled by default for each event type. Use notification settings to opt out of email or in-app for specific events. When in-app is on, notifications still collect in the bell menu.

Delivery timing can vary by event type and environment configuration. If you rely on strict timing, validate using your own account settings and a test action.
